Is your printer producing the correct colours that it should be? If not it is easy to isolate the problem by using a Test Page. The 3 main colours used by your inkjet printer are Cyan (Bluey Colour), Magenta (Reddish Colour) and Yellow. Of course they also use Black however we will discuss this later. If your printer is not printing the correct colour combinations then by printing a test page you can easily work out what may be the cause. Download the printer test page. The test page you will clearly show you which colours are not printing correctly. If for example the Yellow Colour is not printing then first check that the breather tape on the top of the yellow ink cartridge has been fully removed.
If the breather tape has been fully removed then the issue is more than likely a clogged print head. This occurs when ink dries on the surface of the print head due to the printer not being used for a while or else a poor quality ink being used which tends to dry easily and blocks the small holes on the print heads surface. Another common cause of nozzle clogging is that the previous cartridge was fully depleted before it was replaced. You must understand that if a cartridge is used until it completely runs out of ink then it is very hard for the purge pump to prime the new cartridge when it gets installed. This is the main reason why we stress to change a cartridge when the printer prompts you to and not keep running it until it's totally dry of ink.
Almost all printers have the options to clean or deep clean either all of the colours or just the black by itself. Let me warn you that every time you run the nozzle cleaning utility it uses a large amount of ink. Some printers will literally run a set of cartridges dry in four or so deep cleaning cycles. When running nozzle cleans we recommend doing a maximum of two cleans. Any more than this is simply a waste of your valuable ink. If after two cleans there is no difference then let the printer sit overnight and see if by morning if it has done the trick. Often what happens is that oxygen gets trapped in the printhead and it needs time to work it's way out, hence you often see an improvement if you leave it so the oxygen organically works it's way out.
To unblock the print head you will need to go to your printers menu and find the "Nozzle Cleaning" Utility. From there you can select to clean individual colours or the whole lot at once. If you do several cleans and it doesn't improve then you may need a Print Head Cleaning Kit which uses strong solvents to dissolve any dry ink stuck in the print head. Other than the actual Print Head being damaged there is nothing else which can cause these issues. For some more detailed help feel free to call Ink Hub on (08) 7324 3065 or 0408 691 299
